One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation. As an environmental charity, they are on a mission to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees.
One dollar equals one tree planted. One Tree Planted plant trees in North America, South America, Asia, and Africa. Most of their projects help with restoration from forest fires and floods, as well as creating jobs, building communities, and protecting habitat for biodiversity. One Tree Planted pools the donations for each project and sends the funds to their reforestation partners. They vet their partners to ensure that we maintain a tree survival rate of 80-90%. Depending on the project, partners choose the best tree species to plant and work with local communities to get them in the ground. Planting typically happens in the rainy season when the soil is wet and provides optimal conditions for tree survival. Teachers should consider partnering with One Tree Planted for several reasons, one reason is that planting trees is a simple and effective way to make an impact. Other reasons include the fact that trees clean the air we breathe and the water we drink. They help stabilize our climate, provide habitat for biodiversity, and create sustainable jobs; forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people. One Tree Planted works with schools and teachers to help them share knowledge on the importance of trees. Their education, awareness & engagement tools aim to get students involved with reforestation.
One way to partner with the One Tree Planted is through their Sustainable Schools Program. This program will help you learn how to plan a tree-planting initiative at your school, how to engage students with a school fundraiser, how to plan lessons around deforestation, and more. They will send you resources for the classroom, lesson plans, and even a tree kit if you’re interested.
