Recently, the EWAHEC team visited Tekoa Grade School in Tekoa, Wa. Kids from kindergarten to second grade did health check ups on their EWU Swoops! They charted, listened to heart and lung sounds and performed a thorough check-up on Swoop. Kids were excited to take the healthy mascot home. Kids in third, fourth and fifth grades practiced on balance boards- similar to what Physical Therapist use for rehabilitation training. They also used eye impairment goggles that simulated patients with eye sight problems and performed “tasks” so they could relate to those with eye problems. Smaller kids enjoyed lessons on bones and were able to cut out and assemble Mr. Bones, just in time for Halloween!
