FC Zoom: How to Take Care of Your Voice During Teaching: Speech-Language Pathologist’s Recommendations

January 27, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Dr. Hedieh Hashemi Hosseinabad

Maintaining a healthy voice is important for people, such as teachers, who use their voices to conduct professional tasks. Research shows that the prevalence of voice complaints in university teaching faculty is between 35-45%. Some of the most common voice complaints include throat discomfort, vocal fatigue, hoarseness, and in severe cases vocal nodules.
The inappropriate voice use across in-person and online teaching platforms (i.e., teaching above students talking, speaking over a natural breath cycle, coughing, and throat clearing, increasing the loudness, teaching in noisy environments) are job-related risk factors that may contribute to the development of voice issues in university professors.
Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders will present an online webinar to provide some practical vocal hygienic guidelines for the care of the voice during long hours of teaching.
