The Information Technology Council is advisory to the Chief Information Officer and the Executive Leadership Team on matters related to strategic technology planning, policy, and resource allocation. It is a forum for communication and collaboration among Eastern Washington University’s information technology stakeholders throughout its divisions, colleges, schools, departments, and communities. The IT Council is responsible for:
- Assisting the CIO and the Information Technology department in developing a high level multi-year technology plan that aligns with the university’s mission and strategic plans, outlines clear objectives for technology solutions needed to advance program planning, improve efficiency, eliminate process duplication, and improve university business practices
- Identifying information technology policies or procedures that need to be addressed and making policy recommendations
- Providing input to technology proposals that impact campus-wide operations
- Making recommendations to assist in establishing information technology work plan and budget priorities
- Conducting an annual review of progress in achieving strategic technology priorities
- Ensuring that technology meets the accessibility needs of our faculty, staff, and students
- Act as the data governance authority, providing direction and asserting control over the management and use of institutional data regardless of where the data resides.
- Assisting with annual IT satisfaction surveys
The IT Council also serves as the Level 2 IT Project Prioritization committee.

IT Governance Structure
Information technology governance practices at EWU includes several committees and groups:
- Academic Committee for Innovation and Technology, which advises Information Technology and Academic Affairs on the standards, guidelines, policies and planning that supports the use of technological resources to enhance the quality of teaching and learning, research and other scholarly activities.
- Banner Users Groups, which is a forum for discussion and feedback for functional users of Banner and related enterprise systems.
- Data Management Committee, which acts as authority for all data and provides oversight of institutional data.
- Student Tech Fee Committee, which advises Information Technology and “directs spending exclusively for technology resources for general student use.”
