Fix it Tickets are used for students to fix a classroom expectation that they may need help with. The idea is for students to improve their behavior without having to give them repercussions.
The tool should be used for students to be able to fix their mistakes when they do not meet a classroom expectation. The idea behind the “Fix it Ticket” is that students will make a plan for them to improve on their behavior before there are actual repercussion that will happen. This gives students the ability to make a plan on their own and fix their behavior before getting into more trouble. The experience that I have with a similar tool would be a “poor choice” slip that I have seen used before. This has the same idea of giving students the slip in which they would need to fix their behavior, but I feel that the “Fix it Ticket” is a better way to have students make a plan for improvement.
I placed this tool in the Corrective Phase because the idea behind the tool is to correct students’ behavior within the classroom and for them to make a plan and fix what is not right. The idea behind the corrective phase and this tool would be that students would have a conversation with both their teacher and their parents and return to school with a plan. This tool would be in the Teacher Directed Theory because I feel since the teacher would be the one that would facilitate giving these out, it would be best during this phase. The teacher would be the one that is paying attention to student’s actions and deciding whether they would need to receive a Fix it Ticket.

This was a really great tool that helped curb undesirable behaviors from students and gave students an opportunity to think about why their behavior is undesirable. Another plus side to this tool would be that it helps with students taking accountability for their actions. It was relatively easy to prepare for because all you had to do was either look online for example “Fix-It Tickets” or you could create your own and then print the desired amount off. Explaining to the students what a “Fix-It” ticket is went smoother for me than it may for some, due to the fact that my mentor teacher uses a similar management tool called “problem-solving’s”. When using these “Fix-It Tickets” during instruction it was a little hard at first to establish when the students should fill out their “Fix-It Tickets”, but after designating an area for students to sit down and fill out their “Fix-It Tickets” it was easier to use. This tool decreased undesired behaviors, was a good self-reminder for students, and improved the overall energy in the classroom to a more positive learning environment that was an easier environment to manage. I think that this tool is so useful, but maybe adding a section for students to track how many times they correct their behavior throughout the day would be useful in having students think about the behavior even more.
Corrective-Fix It Ticket
I tested this with my fifth graders, a class of 27 students and this is a tool to use when the students have a problem, they can fix that they are struggling to follow. My mentor and I would give these to the students when they wouldn’t consistently ignore our directions and wouldn’t stay on task or finish their work and would talk on times where it was time to listen to directions. This was used a lot of times with some students who ignored the teacher and didn’t want to improve their behavior. After a while the students seemed to be tired of filling these out and they would start to slowly gain focus on the teacher and talk when it was appropriate or follow directions as they were asked. The students understood their role because if the teacher mentioned it to them, they would know that they weren’t following directions and that they were going to be sitting at the small table filling this out while the rest of the class did the learning. I think that this is a great tool to use because it makes the students become aware of rules and how they should be followed in order to get to learn better and have a safer classroom for everyone.
