Jigsaw grouping is a great strategy to group your students when learning a subject where there are multiple aspects to cover. It can be helpful as they can put together the puzzle that their jigsaw pieces create to already begin coming together as a group before they even start the task they were given.
Decluttering your classroom is getting all of your stacks of papers and items around the classroom that are not being used put away to where they are out of the students’ sight. It is used to make your classroom look more organized and give your students less distractions when trying to focus during class time.
Private student conferences are a great opportunity for teachers to have a conversation with each student concerning academics, behavior or any other concerns the teacher might have about her student. Conferences can be formal or informal depending on the circumstances, a quick conversation or a meeting before or after school.
Reminders are useful because they keep us organized and on task in our daily lives and offer valuable support to students. These reminders in the classroom prompt children to do the remembering themselves. Pulling up their memory of established expectations and allow students to decide on an action based on the expectation.
Adjusting the seating chart is a last resort option if the students are being unresponsive to previous phases of trying to resolve the problem of distracting peers through continual talking.
Daily tasks are helpful in the classroom because they give students a sense of responsibility with tasks that can differ from day to day. It empowers students by holding them responsible for a given task, assigned by the teacher, which can range from passing out papers to taking attendance.
A Verbal Plan for Improvement is as simple as a one-sentence plan that is developed by the student, stating what the student will do differently in the future. This plan is specific, realistic, brief, and stated in a positive manor. It is very important that the student state their own plan and make a commitment to following it, which can be done by writing their statement down on paper or printing it out.
Consistent Consequences is about addressing behavioral issues with appropriate consequences. This involves going through with consequences you may have mentioned you would do if a student misbehaved.
Trash your Troubles provides students the opportunity to express their feelings or worries anonymously. It also provides some insight on problems your students face that you might be able to help with by addressing the whole class.
Classroom Curtains allows you to hide any shelves that have supplies or objects that are not in use at the moment. By hiding the materials, you prevent students from getting distracted during lessons and it helps prevent the students from using those supplies.
