The classroom environment is very important when taking into account how students are learning and what you are wanting when planning the lay out and materials in your room. Students can feel more attentive when learning and have a sense of enjoyment in being able to feel engaged and excited to be in the class community.
A wide range of students may struggle with anxiety and or adhd among other things within the classroom. Fidget tools when appropriately used are helpful for many students to relieve stress and aid focus in the classroom.
Clock partners can be used for a multitude of purposes. At the beginning of the year, the students will pick 12 of their classmates and assign each of them a number on their respective clock. Each partner should have each other’s names written on the same number on their clock.
This tool helps prevent the number of times students ask to leave the room during important informational times. This is done by implementing the 10/10 rule where students don’t leave the room during the first or last ten minutes of class.
The calming corner is a box in the classroom with different calming tools for students like visual calming tools as well as different fidgets, ideas for calming, and tools for visual expression. This is available for students to use when they feel frustrated, angry or upset as a safe way to help them calm down.
Placing different colored dots on a blank note card can be used to group students. When you are needing to group you will hand out a note card with a different colored dot and the students will have to find their peer(s) with he same colored dot on the note card. This help prevent students being left out when students are grouping up.
For this tool the student will sit in a circle.They will turn to the person next to them and mention one thing they did the previous day then say “good morning”. After the students have said one thing they did the previous day and a good morning they will turn to the other student and a different question the teacher provided, they will also say good morning when they are done. After the students have shared with the people next to them they can raise their hand and share something they said to a partner.
