This tool is helpful because it celebrates the student’s success no matter how well they do. It is also super helpful because it is a common language and procedure within the class so when you say give Johnny 3, all the children know exactly what to do. The ever-changing cheers are very fun but, it is sometimes hard for them to remember all the details of every cheer which leads to only part of the class participating. This cheer is also very simple and quick.
We use this cheer when students are sharing journal work, show and tell, or anything else in front of the class. The student gets 3 claps if they did exactly what they were supposed to, 4 claps if they went above and beyond, and 2 claps if they might have been missing something. It would sound something like this in the classroom: the teacher would say good job patty, give her 4. The whole class would clap 4 times in unison and then punch their first into the air while saying “PATTY ROCKS”.
The you rock management tool would fall under the supportive category because I believe it
supports positive learning of prosocial skills in an authentic context. You would use this in the middle of a lesson when learning has already begun. I think would be on the collaborative and teacher-centered side of the theories because the teacher has a large role in this being able to be run smoothly, as well as the teacher is the one that decided how many claps a student gets based on his/her work.
