Part Time Officers

EWU Police Department does not currently have a PTO program.

Eastern Washington University Part Time Officer Program

The Eastern Washington University Part Time Officer Program is comprised of men and women who are hourly employees, and serve and protect the campus of Eastern Washington University. Part Time officers are assigned to uniformed, armed duties or non-uniform, unarmed duties. Part Time officers receive training in a variety of law enforcement skills, both academic and tactical. The Reserve Academy is held annually and lasts for approximately five months.  Classes are typically held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and all day on Saturdays.  All training is paid for and approved by the Eastern Washington University Police Department.

Being a Part Time Officer is rewarding and a great way to serve the EWU campus community as well as experience what it is like to be a police officer. It is also a great way to possibly work into becoming a full-time paid police officer should a position become available.

PTO DUTIES

Under the direction of the Part Time Officer Program Coordinator, Part Time Officers perform many duties similar to those of full-time Police Officers. These duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with special details (athletic events, concerts etc.)
  • Assist at traffic collisions, enforce traffic laws
  • Community events, festivals, parades etc.
  • Crime prevention activities

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Part Time officers have the same minimum qualifications and hiring process as Entry-Level police officers with the exception of the college, military or police certification requirements.
