Winter is coming and it’s getting dark earlier. Plan ahead to stay safe on campus and around town.
- Make sure you have a light with you, we have a lot of dark streets around town
- Download a flashlight app or carry a small flashlight so you can see where you are going
- Try to plan your route so you are walking in areas with lights
- Wear light colors or something reflective, cars won’t stop if they can’t see you
- If you ride, make sure your bike has lights
- Walk in a group or with a buddy, there is safety in numbers and cars are more likely to spot a group than an individual
- Have your keys ready before you go outside
- If you’re on campus you can request a Safety Escort when walking after dark
- If you see something that looks suspicious, call 911 or campus police and let them know.
- Submit a near miss Incident Report, to alert us about lights that are out or areas on campus that are too dark.
