The H.O.M.E. Program at Eastern Washington University provides support for non-traditional students who are parents.
One important part of H.O.M.E. is the annual Giving Tree program. The intention of The Giving Tree is to see that every child of a student parent receives a gift during the holiday season.
The Giving Tree accepts applications from students who are parents for their children starting in October. On the application, students can specify the age of their children, sizes of clothes, and specific gift requests they might have. Applications can be picked up in Monroe 207. Electronic applications are available upon request. The application deadline is the end of October.
In November, gift tags with the children’s requests are distributed throughout campus. Gift donations are due back to Monroe 207 by the end of November.
Also in November, a bake sale occurs over 3 days that supports the children whose tags may not be picked up.
At the beginning of December, students are able to pick up the gifts for their children, typically during finals week.
We hope that this program helps to make the holiday season a little brighter for student parents and their children.
