EWU wants you to stay happy, healthy, and safe. Safety is a community effort so it is important that we all do our part to keep our fellow Eags safe. Here are some tips and resources to help you stay safe and avoid dangerous situations.

11 TIPS FOR CAMPUS SAFETY
- Most crime is committed as a result of opportunity, so the best prevention is to eliminate opportunities.
- Keep your residence doors, including dorm rooms, locked at all times.
- Limit or restrict access to your living area.
- Lock up wallets, purses, jewelry, cameras, and other valuables.
- Report suspicious persons or activities when you see them.
- Report safety hazards, unsafe lighting, and defective equipment.
- Avoid walking alone at night. Let people know where you are going.
- Plan your walk by choosing a safe, well lighted, and populated route.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Know where you are and where you are going and what to expect.
- Never leave your beverage unattended.
- Don’t go somewhere alone with someone you just met.

The University Police are committed to continuously working in partnership with our diverse campus community so together we may foster trust, reduce incidents of crime and promote safety through education and enforcement.
Interactive Campus Maps
The Interactive Campus Maps can be used to help you find the 911: Emergency Blue Buttons located across campus. These buttons can be used to contact campus police if you ever feel in danger.

Campus Alerts
The “EWU Alerts” service is provided by Eastern Washington University to EWU faculty, staff, students and other campus community members as a method of communicating timely announcements via cell phone text messaging, e-mail, and other electronic communication channels.
Information Security
The Office of Information Security’s mission is to protect EWU’s computer networks and the information that flows over it. To fulfill this mission, our office provides a wide variety of services to the EWU community that help minimize the occurrence and risk of security incidents.
Sex Offender Disclosure
An informed public is a safer public. Notification is not intended to increase fear. Sex/kidnap offenders have always lived in our communities. Unless restricted by a court order, sex/kidnap offenders are constitutionally permitted to live wherever they choose.
