The Center for Academic Advising and Retention (CAAR) wants to thank EWU students, staff, and faculty.
This past fall, the university implemented Navigate Student—a student-facing mobile application—based on the feedback received from DESN 490 senior capstone students in June 2019. Students asked for a mobile app to make appointments, organize their schedule and connect with vital campus offices.
CAAR was able to deliver. Navigate Student allows Eagles to connect to the right person in a timely manner when the need arises. Now, Eastern has well over 8,000 students using the program. EAB, the consulting firm that created the app, says that EWU has the sixth highest adoption rate among four-year institutions.
Eastern also implemented Academic Planner, a new place for students to plan, schedule and register for classes. Academic Planner also houses the shared academic planning workspace for both advisors and students. As with Navigate Student, EWU broke records with the usage of Academic Planner. Eastern had the most successful user adoption rate of any other four-year institution. This means that students are better able to plan their course of study at EWU, graduating more quickly and with less debt.
The staff at CAAR say the successes would not have happened without students telling them what they needed—and then using the resources once available. CAAR staff also want to thank the professional and faculty advisors, and the EWU staff who are using the Navigate tools.
