The EWU Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) invites the campus community to participate in the 10th annual Diversity and Inclusion Week, April 19-23.
This year’s virtual event will feature notable local and national speakers who are experts on important cultural topics facing our country. It also offers participants an opportunity to celebrate the multicultural achievements and the significant educational contributions of diverse people.
“Diversity and Inclusion week takes on an urgent sense of purpose this year, given the nationwide acts of violence against people of color and the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes,” says Shari Clark, PhD, vice president for diversity and senior diversity officer at EWU. “Unfortunately, innocent people are being brutally killed based on the color of their skin.”
The week features bestselling author, historian and CNN contributor Kathleen Belew, PhD, an expert in the White Supremacy movement in the United States. On Thursday, Belew, who is also an assistant professor of history at the University of Chicago, will discuss her book, Bring the War Home: The White Power Movement and Paramilitary America. Her participation is part of the Chertok Speaker Series, which is a featured part of the week’s events.
