DeWalt Named COB Advisory Board Chair

Eastern Washington University’s College of Business is pleased to announce that Jim DeWalt has been appointed interim chair of the College of Business Advisory Board.

DeWalt, a 1973 graduate of EWU, resides in Spokane with his wife, Ruth. He is the President and CEO of Associated Industries of the Inland Northwest (AIIN).

A Washington native, DeWalt graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in government from Eastern and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington. He has served on the College of Business Advisory Board since 2005 and is currently a member of the EWU President’s Regional Advisory Board. He previously served on the Eagle Athletic Association Governing Board (1995-2002) and the EWU Foundation Board (2011-2016).

As President and CEO of Associated Industries of the Inland Northwest (AIIN), DeWalt is actively involved in the local business community. AIIN provides legal, human resources and benefit services for small to mid-size organizations in the region. They are also involved in community programs and initiatives including the Bite2Go Program with Second Harvest and The Salvation Army’s Kettle Kick-off event. In 2008, they founded the Bright Promise Scholarship Program, which funds scholarships for local students pursuing an education in health sciences, business, technology, and manufacturing—industries that are central to our region’s continued development and success. Through the Bright Promise Scholarship Program, 264 area students have received 50 percent tuition funding at Eastern Washington University or Spokane Community College.

Before leading the Associated Industries team, DeWalt served as President and CEO of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Spokane, Vice President at Metwest Financial Services of Metropolitan Mortgage, and as President of Northwest Capital Inc. He is an active participant in community affairs and serves on the board of the Association of Washington Business.

The EWU College of Business Advisory Board meets regularly throughout the academic year and provides recommendations and support for college programs, scholarships, fundraising and events. Members include business professionals from a variety of local and regional industries.
