EWU’s Army ROTC is hosting Ranger Challenge 2019 on the Eastern Washington University campus on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25–26.
Ten teams from different ROTC programs across the Pacific Northwest will be competing on campus. The focus of the Ranger Challenge is on leadership and team building, camaraderie and honing basic infantry skills. EWU is co-hosting the competition this year with Gonzaga University.
Squad-sized teams will compete against each other in physically demanding exercises such as combat water survival testing, advanced marksmanship qualifications, land navigation, a grenade assault course and a 12-kilometer road march. During the exercises, you will see soldiers with weapons—however, no ammunition will be on EWU’s campus.
You’re invited to support the ROTC Fighting Eagles during two of the challenges: 11 a.m. Friday at the pool in the Aquatics Center and 1 p.m. Friday at JFK Field. Swoop will be at both events to cheer on the EWU cadets as well.
More About the EWU ROTC “Fighting Eagles” Battalion
Since 1952 the EWU ROTC program has been training future leaders for our country with a curriculum in military leadership, both theoretical and practical. Students learn the fundamentals of leadership and progress through increasing roles and responsibilities in order to improve their proficiency. Many other life skills, such as time management, oral and written communication, first aid and personal fitness, and adventure training are also integrated into the program.
