EWU hosted a vaccine clinic in conjunction with CHAS Health Clinic on Wednesday, June 9, in the PUB NCR. CHAS provided about 40 participants with the single-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. The university plans more vaccine clinics, especially as we get closer to the start of fall classes.
This latest clinic came after EWU interim President David May recently launched the “EagsVaxUp” program to encourage the campus community to get vaccinated.
The program reinforces the requirement that everyone in the EWU community who can be vaccinated will be fully vaccinated before the start of the ‘21-’22 academic year.
“The goals are to raise awareness, provide access and create incentives for our campus community to receive the COVID vaccination,” says May, who first unveiled the plan to the Board of Trustees at a May 20 meeting.
In addition to providing information and education about the safety and effectiveness of COVID vaccinations, and how getting vaccinated benefits our whole community, Eastern will guide people through the step-by-step process of uploading their documentation safely to our approved third-party Med+Proctor system. (Detailed instructions can be found here.) You do NOT have to pay for this; it is a free service, although the system will prompt you for optional payment features.
“This is a critical step to help us establish a baseline, track vaccination rates and use that information to help us make decisions moving forward,” adds May.
An essential part of the EagsVaxUp campaign is incentivizing the Eastern community to participate. If you get vaccinated and upload your documentation into Med+Proctor, you will automatically be eligible for drawings through this fall–this includes incoming and continuing students, as well as faculty and staff. For students, the top prize will be free tuition for the ‘21-22 year. Other prizes include everything from food and dining, to events on- and off-campus, and reductions in on-campus housing costs. The drawings occur every Wednesday starting June 9. The first drawing is for an annual parking pass! One employee and one student will each receive a parking pass — so upload your vaccination record in Med+Proctor now! Prizes will be claimed at the PUB Info Desk.
As part of Eastern’s ongoing effort to provide easy access to vaccines for the community, the university is also working with a community healthcare partner to set-up another clinic on campus with the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine. We will have staff on site to help you upload your information so you are instantly eligible for the upcoming drawings. More information will be announced soon.
