EWU Theatre Enters the Virtual Realm

The Eastern Washington University Theatre Program is pleased to announce, that even during a global pandemic, it will continue to create and share the work of students and faculty through virtual screenings. The fall 2020 production is being presented online through the ticketing platform showtix4.com. Shows will be recorded and purchased tickets will grant online access to each production on specific dates and at specific curtain times.

“As EWU Theatre steps into the uncharted territory of virtual theatre, I couldn’t be more in awe of our students and my colleagues,” says Sara Goff, chair of EWU’s Theatre and Film Program. “To me, the attempt to create in this environment is not only heroic, but needed.”

The 2020-21 University Theatre season will kick off with She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms, a play adapted specifically for a physically distant reality. It will be streamed at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 13, 14 and 20, 21. Scroll down to see photos from the Nov. 13 and 14 screenings.

She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90’s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.
