Ideas and conversations were free-flowing at the 22nd Student Research and Creative Works Symposium Tuesday and Wednesday on the EWU Cheney campus.
Eastern graduate and undergraduate students from a variety of disciplines showcased their projects, completed after months of preparation with their faculty mentors. The symposium also allowed the Eastern community to network, interact with students and mentors, and explore the range of arts and research happening on campus.
Among the projects highlighted on Wednesday was a device that will allow a US Paralympic gold medalist participate in kayaking events. The client, a swimmer, was born without hands or feet, so paddling is a challenge. Mechanical engineering students created a product that allows a paddle to be attached to his arms, enabling him to better hold it and move it. The device will be put into action this summer, says project teammate Cameron Metcalfe.
A number of other subjects were well represented, from theater and arts, to biology and social sciences.
