Los Angeles artist Matt Lipps will be on campus at noon on Thursday, April 18, in the Art Building Auditorium (room 116) to talk about his work.
Matt Lipps has collected photographs from both high and low sources like Time and Life magazines, and art history books since childhood. With these images Lipps builds three dimensional collages and tableaus, then photographs them using theatrical techniques with a large format analog camera. This unique hybrid of sculpture and photography breathes a new life into familiar and historical images. The thought-provoking arrangement of forms and figures help to reveal how these images have reflected and shaped our culture.
Matt Lipps was born in Los Angeles, California, where he currently lives and works. He earned his BFA in Photography from California State University, Long Beach in 1998 and an MFA in Studio Art from the University of California, Irvine. He teaches at the University of California, Los Angeles, and San Francisco State University.
